Connection

Welcome back, Natural Health Family.

I hope you were able to enjoy the weekend as time seems to be moving by fast. We are in interesting times, would you disagree? With all the media, technology, and connectedness from our phones to news traveling at lightning speed, it seems that this would be great for us. Unfortunately, it comes with a price. Although the technology that we have been blessed with over the years can help us in many ways, it also can influence us to be disconnected, to compare, to over-analyze, etc. At these times more than ever, being connected is vastly important when it comes to our health.

Did you know that when a person hugs another the body releases chemicals, one known as oxytocin? These chemicals play an important part in regulating our body’s nervous system. They are known to help improve our immune system responses, help relax blood vessels, lower the levels of cortisol which is an indicator of levels of stress, and increase the production of other neurotransmitters important for regulating our mood. Why do I bring this up? Well of course I am not saying to start going around hugging everyone (Ha!). More importantly, I am addressing the point of connection. This doesn’t have to be just physical connection. It can also be how we relate to others, ourselves, and life in general. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the world that we lose touch and throw blame or negativity at others. We can start to become irritated at even little things. However, this can be an indication of a disconnect at some aspect. It is important for us to remember that we are all here together and all connected at some level. However, at times we can start to become divided, imbalanced, and feel so separated from others that it causes turmoil not only for those around us but also within us. Our bodies are amazing, but just like imbalance and interference can cause issues with how our brain communicates with our body, so to when we are divided amongst ourselves it can cause inharmony.

We all go through challenging times. We are all influenced by technology, the media, etc. But let us grow stronger through it. Let us use the technology to become more connected rather than be used by it. So today, I encourage you to connect more, whatever that means to you.

Enjoy the week.
