Learning to Unlearn

Hello Natural Health Family.

We are heading into the fall months and the cooler weather is refreshing. The change in the seasons can help remind us that life is not meant to be stagnant or the same all the time. That throughout the year it is constantly changing and adapting. So this can be valuable for us to see that our bodies too are meant to adapt and be healthy in all the changes in life. However, sometimes it can be up to us to see that perhaps what we have learned in the past, though helpful at the time, is either outdated or not entirely true or needed any longer. Let’s explore this topic and see how we can help ourselves let go of unnecessary information.

When a person is watching the news, listening to a podcast, or scrolling on their phone looking at social media, that information is available for us to take in or “digest”. Now you may ponder about the fact that we have never been bombarded with so much information like we have in today’s world. Think about when the news only came on a select few channels and everyone got other information from the newspapers. Many people probably put their trust in what they saw or heard. Now with all the information that is being spread out there it can be difficult to know what is true. And just like our food that we have to digest in certain amounts, we can realize that taking all this information can be overloading or overwhelming. So it is important to be able to have discernment about what we take in because we can all be susceptible to this. And just because some authority says this is the one and only way, doesn’t mean we have to fully accept it. It is important to use a filter, like is this helpful, is it true, have I seen evidence to support this, can I use this information to better the lives of myself or others, etc.. The information is not bad, but are we able to use it in an effective manner, or does it get to a point where it is directing our own lives?

Many times, health doesn’t mean to add so much and to attain all the information out there or to know everything. In fact, it can be more of letting much of the go, getting back to the basics, and questioning what we may have thought was just how life worked.

Have a great week!
