Enjoy the small things

Hi Natural Health Family.

Fall is here and starting to see more signs of it. I have heard that it seems that we are always waiting for the next thing. This could be the next season, (cold weather when it's too hot, warm weather when it's too cold), the next game, the next vacation, the next you name it. Of course these are all good things and we should look forward to change and newness. However, what if making the most of right now was ultimately the goal for all of us?

Have you ever gone on vacation and wanted to do all the activities on the agenda? You were wanting to get there and once you got there you wanted to do everything on the list. Then when you crossed everything off that you wanted to, you wanted to get back home. Then when someone asks you how the vacation was you thought it went by quickly but it seemed a little stressful. Don’t get me wrong, everyone deserves and needs a good vacation. But what is the point when you can’t enjoy the little things? That is why now more than ever, with the bombardment of society telling us what we need and want, it is important to enjoy the days we have. Whether it is a talk with a friend, the moment as the sun beams over the horizon in the morning, the warm cup of coffee and the first sip, the joy you get to give a coworker as you discuss the weekend, the presence you are able to offer when someone is having a difficult time, the service you get to give someone so that their life can be just a bit better, or just a light walk seeing the leaves change, we can see life in a whole new way.

When we are able to enjoy the small things, we give our bodies and nervous systems a little break, the ability to reset, and to live life more fully. What if just small changes we make over time can have an extraordinary impact, not only in our own lives but in the lives of those around us? What a different world it would be.

Enjoy the week.
