What's Really Important

Welcome back, Natural Health Family.

Wishing all a wonderful holiday season and a Merry Christmas. This season as we all know brings many things to the table: the prep to get everything ready, the presents, the food, the travels, the family, and all the things. It can be a time of extremes, where at one point it can be special and then it can be stressful. However, even the stressful times can help us to learn: either from the situation or something about ourselves.

Many of us know about the list, the naughty and nice list. Although this is a story that is made up for children to receive toys, it does have similarities to adult life and our own conduct and character. So it can be used in this context as an analogy of how to go about life. Of course we are not always going to do everything perfect. We all have made mistakes and we can’t always be nice. But as we grow up, we can strive to be good. I recently watched a Christmas movie and one scene expressed the idea that in life we all have big and little choices. And it’s up to us to make the choice. Sometimes, we can do things that might put us on the naughty list, but this doesn’t make us that kind of person. These choices can also be lessons for us. In life we get to choose what to focus on and how to see the world. We can choose to come from a lens that shows sickness and illness as normal. That complaining, comparing, gossiping, is normal. That it’s normal to be stressed out. Or, we can choose the lens that  focuses on what we can control, we can focus on health, we can see good in others, and choose to see that we are all doing the best we can, even though it doesn’t always seem that way.

This is a time for giving, not just presents (and we don’t have to do that at all), but of ourselves, our joy, our presence, and helpfulness when it’s warranted. Although this season can sometimes seem overwhelming, let’s not forget what's really important, what it's truly about. Often, the best gifts are not gifts at all.

Have a great and safe holiday season.
