Winter As a Teacher

Welcome back, Natural Health Family.

It is good to be back. But wow, look at all the snow on the ground. California might have been cool, but nothing like the Midwest. The season of snow is upon us, and this can be a good time for us to slow it down. Sometimes in the world we have learned or have been conditioned to think that we always need to be doing something. Therefore, let us remember that just like life and nature has its seasons, we also don’t need to be constantly on the move.

Life has its ebbs and flows, its ups and downs. When we go on social media and other platforms, many times we only see the highlight reels. But just like a sports team who seems to be the best in a given year, that didn’t happen by accident. Many people didn’t see all the hard work and prep needed to advance to that state. Or take for instance a person who has been successful, you don’t see all the people that helped along the way, the long hours, the trials and tribulations, the upsets, and emotional turmoil. So when it comes to our own lives, it’s good to realize that life is not always going to go the way we think it is. We may even get knocked down by life or be carried away in the storms that seem like there is no way out. To realize that everyone goes through these experiences helps us to see that falls and failures are okay, that they are not the end but rather a part of the process. It reminds us that when one door closes another opens, but we must not be afraid to go through the new door, and sometimes courage is created when we choose to be still amidst the chaos.

What if for today we took a little time to stop and see what is around us? What if, instead of quickly assuming things, we choose to be more curious of why something is the way it is--whether we assume it is good or bad? What if today was the start of something new, to a life where we are not always trying to get from A to B but rather being okay with just where we are?

Have a good week,

-Dr. Chip
